Coastal Field Notes is a working notebook of photographs made along the coast.

The work focuses on the coastline, particularly waves and movement, and on the light and how patterns shift across the surface of the water.

Images are made close to the water, mindful of changing skies and subtle variations of color and form.

A number of photographs in this body of work use intentional camera movement (often referred to as ICM.) The camera is moved during the exposure to respond to the motion of waves and changing light, resulting in images that emphasize sensation and pattern over tack sharp.

This work is organized as ongoing photographic and coastal studies.
